Kris Meenan is a Saint Petersburg, FL-based artist working primarily in acrylic painting and digital illustration. Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL, they relocated to Chicago at the age of 20 and spent nearly a decade there before heading back south and making St. Pete their home in 2019. While they’ve always made art in some capacity, it wasn’t until December of 2020, when local art vending company Lucid Vending reached out to them to have their art sold in their machines, that they decided to pursue art professionally. The first vending machine they had their art in was located in local event space Coastal Creative and their work was soon discovered by curator Stephanie Agudelo aka Populoum. In February 2021, they displayed in their first group art exhibit in St.Pete with Populoum and since then have shown in dozens of shows in Coastal Creative as well as Five Deuces Galleria, Mize Gallery, SPACE, and several local businesses around downtown St. Pete. Their style draws inspiration from artists like Peter Max, the mod/psychedelic fashion of the 60s, all things colorful and eccentric, and sometimes with a bit of their dark humor sprinkled in. Fun, bold patterns that are often clashing and chaotic are also central to their artistic aesthetic as well as their personal style, and their main goal as an artist is to continue focusing more on creating wearable, functional art.
